In honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday Dater School celebrated with a day of reading. First, the entire Dater School staff and all of the students sat in the hallways from 9:00AM-9:20AM for independent reading. Throughout the day, students took Accelerated Reader tests as part of Renaissance Learning’s ” Read the Most from Coast to Coast”. The goal was to see how many students (from schools who participate in Accelerated Reader) throughout the United States could take AR tests in one day. Dater set thier sights for 5 million tests in one day and came close with approximately 4,987,000 tests taken on February 28th. Students at Dater took 454 AR tests on Friday to help reach the national goal. In addition to these two events, Dater invited guest readers in each homeroom and some delicious treats. Guest readers and staff members were invited to a Dr. Seuss reception at the end of the school day. While all this was going on in Dater School, gently used or new books were collected as part of a service project for Project Cicero. The response to the book drive was amazing and Dater loaded up over 20 boxes of books for students in need here in Northern New Jersey. What a great way to celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday. A special thanks to our students, staff, and parents who assisted in making this a memorable day for Dater School.
